Your private Morocco adventure with Great Morocco Travel begins with a scenic drive from Casablanca to Rabat, the capital city. Explore key landmarks such as the Hassan Tower, the Royal Palace, and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V. We then continue to Meknes, one of Morocco's imperial cities, where you'll visit the imposing Bab El Mansour gate and other historic sites. In the afternoon, we journey to the ancient Roman city of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its remarkably preserved mosaics and ruins. By evening, we arrive in Fes, where you’ll check into a traditional riad or hotel for an overnight stay.
After breakfast, embark on a guided cultural tour of Fes, Morocco’s oldest imperial city, founded by Idriss II. Discover the spiritual and intellectual heart of the country as you explore the UNESCO-listed medina, home to over 9,000 narrow streets. Visit the Al Quaraouiyine University, the Medersa Bou Inania, the tanneries, and the Mosque of the Andalusians. Our expert local guide, Aziz, will provide fascinating insight into the city’s rich history and traditions. In the evening, return to your riad or hotel for a relaxing night.
Today’s journey takes you south through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Our first stop is in Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco,” for its alpine-style architecture. We continue to Azrou, where you can observe wild Barbary apes in the cedar forest. After lunch in Midelt, we pass through the scenic Ziz Valley, before arriving in Erfoud, famous for its fossils and date palm plantations. Then it’s on to Merzouga, where your desert adventure begins. Enjoy a camel trek into the towering dunes of Erg Chebbi and witness the magical sunset over the Sahara. At the desert camp, enjoy a traditional Berber dinner, followed by drumming under the stars. Overnight in a luxury tent.
After watching the sunrise over the dunes, return by camel to Merzouga and continue the journey toward Todra Gorges, stopping in Rissani and Tinghir along the way. At Todra Gorges, enjoy a walk through the dramatic canyon, where 300-meter-high cliffs tower above a crystal-clear river. After lunch, travel through the scenic Dades Valley, known for its rock formations and fortified kasbahs. Dinner and overnight in a local riad or kasbah nestled in the valley.
On the final day, travel along the famed Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. Stop in Kalaat M’Gouna, famous for its Rose Valley, then continue through Skoura to reach Ouarzazate, often referred to as the “Hollywood of Africa.” Visit the Atlas Film Studios before heading to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou, a magnificent ksar that has served as the backdrop for many iconic films. After a guided tour and lunch, begin the breathtaking drive across the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m).
